So when I finally got back on the phone with this prospect, I zoomed out and asked how the company was doing overall.
Turns out, they had other products running in the background earning multiple 8 figures per year combined.
So my next question was simple: “Why don’t we work on making one of those products generate even more sales for you instead?”
I could almost see a lightbulb go on in the prospect’s head.

My prospect went from having tunnel vision around hiring me to help launch the new product…

It was as if at first, someone was shining a spotlight on the new product launch. So the client couldn’t see anything else.
But then I took control of the spotlight and shined it on their existing portfolio of products instead. And everything changed.
We had a rough agreement for a new project outlined by the end of the call. And in a matter of days, the contract was signed and the first payment was on the way.
So the lesson here is that you cannot always trust that your prospects know the best way to use your talents.
You need to become a strategic advisor during the sales process. And to show your potential clients how you can deliver the biggest results for them — which in turn should generate the biggest payday for you as well.
